Gandalf World Tour starts at Comic-Con 2011

TheOneRing.net has been formally presenting discussion about the Lord of the Rings films and The Hobbit for a decade at places like Comic-Con and DragonCon. So it was natural that in San Diego this year at Comic-Con, TORn announced the fan-driven Gandalf World Tour. The idea is to get a pair of statues of Gandalf in the hands of fans across the United States and Europe and one of the biggest popular culture events in the entire world seemed like the perfect place. What is the Gandalf World Tour?

Gandalf is touring the world! In a global event that exploded at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2011, two statues of everybody’s favorite wizard will be seeking photo ops in spots suitable for a fantasy icon in the real world. Of course our Gandalf is a beautiful statue made by Sideshow Collectibles and Weta Workshop and fans worldwide will have the chance to pass him along. Participants are asked to keep our Gandalf (we nicknamed him Fandalf) as the primary subject of the photo and to use Peter Jackson’s tricks of photography to keep him in scale with people, place and things.
