The Grey Pilgrim rides again!

The Grey Pilgrim rides again!

It’s been a while since we’ve had an update here – Gandalf must have had business elsewhere, as a wizard often does – but here’s the latest! Gandalf in Europe is currently travelling around Italy, taking in some fabulous landmarks in places such as Pisa and Rome.  If there’s time, he may make a quick stop in Switzerland – though he may be obliged to say, ‘Now, I have no time!’ and jump on that transatlantic eagle to head back to San Diego. The American Mithrandir made it over to the East side of the country!  Recently, he’s been in Atlanta and then New England, where he stopped off in Rhode Island, Boston and Concord – taking time to tell the British army ‘You shall not pass!” at the...

Gandalf on the move again in France

Gandalf got a bit stuck in France. But since last week he is on the move again. Saruman probably noticed he was back on the road, so he brought a snowstorm to the region where he is now. But we know the Grey Wizard does have some tricks to stop those storms. After one more stop in France he will be on his way to visit Italy.

Gandalf World Tour starts at Comic-Con 2011

TheOneRing.net has been formally presenting discussion about the Lord of the Rings films and The Hobbit for a decade at places like Comic-Con and DragonCon. So it was natural that in San Diego this year at Comic-Con, TORn announced the fan-driven Gandalf World Tour. The idea is to get a pair of statues of Gandalf in the hands of fans across the United States and Europe and one of the biggest popular culture events in the entire world seemed like the perfect place. With a standing-room-only crowd gathered at the very opening of Comic-Con’s programming schedule to hear about The Hobbit, the group also was the first to hear the plan presented and the first to get the details on how to participate. Already dozens of people from the enthusiastic crowds have...

What is the Gandalf World Tour?

Gandalf is touring the world! In a global event that exploded at the San Diego Comic-Con in 2011, two statues of everybody’s favorite wizard will be seeking photo ops in spots suitable for a fantasy icon in the real world. Of course our Gandalf is a beautiful statue made by Sideshow Collectibles and Weta Workshop and fans worldwide will have the chance to pass him along. Participants are asked to keep our Gandalf (we nicknamed him Fandalf) as the primary subject of the photo and to use Peter Jackson’s tricks of photography to keep him in scale with people, place and things. Look for more detailed suggestions soon. Who can participate?  YOU can!  We intend Gandalf to be passed around, photographed and handed off as much as possible at recognizable...
